Community Tree Planting Day

With the 30x amazing volunteers that showed up, we planted 700 native seedlings, including Harakeke (Flax), Ti Kouka (Cabbage Tree), Oioi (Grasses), Houhere (Lacebark). All of these plants were fitted with natural woollen weed mats, a couple of staples, and cardboard protectors, to give them a leg up in the elements.

Planting in this “Riparian” style means that these young trees will root themselves into the riverbanks over the coming months, and help to boost the aquatic life of the stream whilst helping to absorbing excess water and preventing erosion.

We were stoked to share a kai at midday over the BBQ with our local produce & the popular MF Beef Brisket sausages.
